The "Post Boutique" Hotel Era Begins

Will Ian Schrager's post-boutique hotel era vision be a masterpiece or a clusterf***? We should have some idea soon, as the Gramercy Park Hotel, Schrager's self proclaimed "game-changing" hotel, is set to open on August 8. Although we aren't quite sure what the post-boutique era has in store for us hotelphiles, we are guessing there is no way "game-changing" can equal rooms smaller than those at the Hudson. For our web viewing pleasure, the hotel has begun to release special introductory rates which will be valid through September 4.

$250 a night will get you a superior room with queen-sized bed, interior courtyard view and a complimentary breakfast buffet. There will be wireless access but we all know that Ian and co. likes to charge at least $9.95 a day for that--unless of course the new era means free WiFi--we are eternal hotel optimists.

For $50 more you can get a deluxe room with either a king bed or two double beds and views of Lexington Avenue. Lofts start at $340 and one bedroom suites at $400.

Schrager collaborated with artist Julian Schnabel ("a bohemian with money" according to King Ian) on the hotel which will include residences as well. No word on delays, on time opening, or opening party yet, but they are taking reservations online, so that is semi-encouraging. Stay tuned.
