Grand Lake Lodge in Grand Lake, Colorado is located approximately 8,700 feet above sea-level at the Western end of the Rocky Mountain National Park with only rustic pine cabins as your lodging options. So it's not for those who can't take the altitude or the wilderness. And for those who need swank accomodations.

Indeed, reviews of the place confirm that you are roughing it here, but not because of the woodsy locale:

The king-size bed was comfortable, but the bathroom was badly in need of an update . . . drippy shower, no hairdryer, no place to put anything. It had a separate living room, with a sofa and picnic table. There was a full kitchen, with a coffee maker, but no coffee. Gosh, even the cheapest motels give you complimentary coffee! There was no phone and no TV. They keep the property very well-lit at night, so that your room is never dark. Also makes it hard to see the stars.

This kind of review leads us to believe you should spend most of your time exploring outside. The main activities seem to be centered around the lake, like pontooning and kayaking but the water is a little too cold for swimming. You can also go biking, hiking and if you got a hog, you can cruise around on that. Just remember, at night the temperature drops to 40 degrees or colder. So pack some sweaters.

More on the town after the jump.

As for non-physical activities, the town of Grand Lake surprisingly has a lot going on. It's a quaint little summer town filled with mom and pop shops that sell random and often weird mountain souvenirs like lamps made of deer antlers and those Indian dream catcher things. There's also about 10 ice cream stores in the four blocks that makes up the "business district."

But despite only being open three months out of the year, the town has a grocery store, a coffee shop, a laundromat, a Mexican restaurant, a bowling alley and a library.

Even hanging out at Grand Lake Lodge (built in 1920) is not exactly roughing it, aside from the poor cabin situation. There's a pool, two hotel restaurants and a bar that features live music on the weekends. There's even wireless internet access (for a fee) in the lobby and a complimentary guest computer with internet access as well.

So while you may have been inspired by Britney Spears to get in touch with your "country" side you don't have to rough it that bad.
