How could we possibly cover golf resorts this week and not mention Scotland?
At the venerable Old Course at St. Andrews, there's the Prestonfield House. Once home to Edinburgh's Lord Provost in the mid-17th century, the hotel has been given a $3.5 million make-over. The result? Old-world opulence but with all your 21st century needs. The clever hotel mixes in modern amenities including bedroom DVD players, flat screen TVs and high-speed Wi-Fi access within the antique furnishings. So opening up some 19th century chest could reveal your DVD player and not a musty smell.
It was even recognized as the hotel of the year for 2005 for Scotland and Northern Ireland. But this ain't cheap. Doubles start at $341.
And if Scotland isn't your desired location, here are some of the other far-flung golf resorts we looked up:
· Bandon Dunes Golf Resort
· Ritz Carlton Kapalua
· Georgia's Chateau Elan
· The Donald's Golf Apprentice
