Right next to the Le Merigot is the Loews Santa Monica which offers a room rate of $369 a night for a "city view." The hotel is a fave among athletes with beachfront access, a pool and a fancy restaurant. But the valet is expensive at $26 and the hotel has really bad WiFi charges, according to one guest:

Horrendously expensive internet access/computer usage in the business centre ($11 for 15 mins, min charge $8.12)

And despite one guest's rave that the concierge service is the best, many more guests complain about the iffy service.
