[Ed. Note: HotelMaven CatPower tries against her best efforts to not like the Mi Yard Bed & Breakfast in Austin, Texas but comes up short. Enjoy.]

Most B&B's leave me cold; I'm not into knickknacks or little old ladies who want me to be at the breakfast table promptly at 9:00 a.m. So when my friend approached me about staying at one during our trip to Austin I adamantly refused. But because of the affordable prices ($99/night) and her insistence I gave in and I'm grateful for the introduction to Mi Yard Bed and Breakfast.

We got into town much later than originally planned and were worried about knocking on the door at 11:30 at night. We pulled up to the house, a very cool, very Austin bungalow and were pleasantly surprised to see the innkeeper sitting on the porch enjoying the evening. He let us in the house, made sure we had fresh linens and let us know that we could partake in our continental breakfast whenever we chose as he had stocked the fridge with all necessary ingredients.

More on the B&B after the jump.

The house is decorated with old reggae show posters (the owners also own a reggae venue on 6th street.) The rooms were simply furnished but completely comfortable.

I stayed in the Negril room located upstairs with a private bath. I was shocked to see a second kitchen upstairs as well a second living room. I was able to sleep in, make my own coffee upstairs without feeling like I needed to tiptoe around other guests. I spent the morning on the porch listening to the provided reggae collection and finishing up last minute work details on my laptop (the wi-fi was also an unexpected bonus.) We got back from a night out on the town to a pre-heated hot tub and a fire in the pit out front. It was heavenly.

This place is definitely is much more DIY than most B&B's and it probably isn't for everyone (we made our own breakfast of biscuits and eggs at a civilized 11:00 a.m.) but it was completely relaxing and just the right dose of Austin weirdness. To top it all off, Mi Yard is less than 10 minutes from the airport and a $10 cab ride to downtown Austin. We were able to traverse the city with ease and come back to lounge at what felt like our friend's house.

Mi Yard perfect for Music Fests (none / 0)

Oh man, this would be the PERFECT place to stay for ACL or SXSW. And it's soooo close to downtown. Thanks Catpower for hookin' us up!
