Ghent, Belgium is a place for lovers. Known as "Venice of the North" the romantic city is full of canals and medieval architecture.

As for hotels, Sofitels are almost always a safe bet. Comfortable beds, tasty room service, great service, and the amenities we expect. Ghent's Sofitel is located in the center of the city and has everything we need: WiFi, fitness center, and smart design.

There is one odd part about this hotel however that takes away the romantic flair that one searches out in Ghent. The music. We know that music is a hot issue in the hotel market now with many hotels coming up with their own soundtracks.

Whomever was in charge of coming up with the Ghent Sofitel selection however most likely didn't get the training he should have had. Hardly Baroque classical or even elevator style, the Ghent Sofitel is disco-inspired 70s. Here's one interesting account:

Mind you, the all-pervasive piped music does accompany you on your trek [throughout the hotel]: we heard the 1970s Tomorrow's World theme and the music to Austin Powers. Groovy, baby.

It just doesn't fit. Medieval city, beautiful hotel, and Austin Powers music. Perhaps Belgians prefer to shag to the sounds of the 70s.

Hotels in Ghent

A few months ago I made a trip through Europe and arrived in Ghent, Belgium for a couple of days. Ghent is a really vibrant city, with lots of young people (30.000 students) and things to do everywhere you go. Our Hotel in Gent was really amazing and definitely worth it. There are a lot of those charming hotels in Gent I heard, so next time I go (and I will definitely go back one day) it won't be difficult to find one. Booking a hotel in Ghent is also very easy, and you'll always be welcomed with open arms.
