Outing World Cup Hotels: Team Togo

Where: Wangen, Germany

Team Togo has been making some serious impressions on the people of the small town Wangen near the Alps.

This "southern German spa town" has spent the last two weeks turning the town into a Little Togo, as the team's pre-World Cup training camp will be there. The team is staying in the Hotel Waltersbuhl in town but we couldn't find a web site for it nor anything on TripAdvisor.

We'll just have to trust that the Togolese team is being treated like mini-royalty there. Especially since some 3,000 people showed up to welcome the team to Germany.

There was even a song composed in their honour by local soul band, the bizarrely-named Double Cooked Pork Slices, entitled Miawo-ezon-Lo-o (Welcome strangers who have travelled so far).

Local children also offered to stand guard outside the hotel and Togo flags were put up around town.

We thought it was strange that this town would be more excited for this African team than their own country but there might have been an underlying motive: the townsfolk have received 300 tickets to the Togo games as a thank-you gift.

As for the soccer team, if they don't do too well, as least they will still be treated like royalty somewhere.
