Last Friday, the Watergate Hotel made news when a congressman from San Diego was alleged to have had trysts with hookers in the hotel rooms in exchange for political favors.

This Friday, the hotel yet again makes news because someone updated cool new photos of the place to the HotelChatter Flickr Pool. (Thanks to AJBelongia.) Might we add it looks like the Watergate is showing her age. A face-lift might be in order.

If you want to be cool too, upload your own hotel photos to our pool and if they are good enough we'll post 'em for the world wide web to check out.

Or if you prefer to hand-deliver your precious shots, we actually
check our email at least once a day.

Just like many of us who were built during the 1960's The Watergate is showing her age. It's an all concrete and glass building and I think on the outside she just really needs a good washing.

The whole complex of six building was made a historic landmark in 2004 and one of the factors mentioned in the petition i read online was that it was an excellent example of its architect and time because it had not been modernized over the years (can you modernize a modern building?).

The days of the hotel are numbered as the current owners plan to completely gut the interior of the building and convert it into about 100 residential condos. Nothing is supposed to be done to change the exterior's appearance, but supposedly they will be replacing the windows. (Hopefully with something a bit more soundproof against the jet noise since after 9/11 all flights in and out of Washington National are restricted to flying over the Potomac which boarders the complex).

I did submit a review of my stay there to TripAdvisor whose link is included in the original story, but as of this date, they haven't yet published it on their site.
