The NY Times tested the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai on the Big Island of Hawaii as both a family- friendly getaway and a romantic escape.

Starting with the kids, they can be sent away to the hotel's Kids for All Seasons day camp from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for ages 5-12. Kids under 5 can attend so long as there's a nanny in tow which is available from the resort fo $16 an hour.

While the kids are away explore the hotel's 32-acres which include five swimming pools, tennis, golf and a spa. Although, the beaches might be out of the option:

But don't come for the beaches. Lava rock, shallow reefs and prickly sea urchins persuade most guests to confine their swimming to a small protected lagoon and to King's Pond, carved from lava rock and stocked with 3,500 fish.

As with every Four Seasons prices are jacked (rooms start at $625 and ocean views cost more) so be prepared to drop lots of cash with or without kids.

Re: Romantic Hawaii with Kids at Four Seasons

This place is nice but it is definitely NOT romantic.  The walls are shockingly thin for rooms that cost this much.  If your neighbors have kids, you're gonna hear them.  And they're going to hear you.
