Two-Night-Minimum Wedding Jitters
June is just around the corner and we all know what that means--destination weddings.
Since no one can actually get married in their hometown these days, weddings often mean flying to exotic, or sometimes unexotic locales, to witness people you care about say "I Do."
This also means buying airfare and putting up some cash for a hotel room, in addition to the money spent on gifts and other "Congratulations!" expenses.
But often times, you cannot book a hotel room for just one night over the weekend especially if the hotel is also the site of the reception.
In Ireland, brides are starting to protest this two-night minimum practice for wedding guests, which some hotels were applying to hen and stag parties. Even the Consumers' Association of Ireland (CAI) has told people to boycott hotels that do this.
But Irish hotels are standing by their policy.
John Power, chief executive of the Irish Hotels Federation, defended the policy. "A hotel room is perishable -- you can't sell last night's empty room or put it in a sale tomorrow or put it in the freezer and sell it next week," he said.
Hmm...we still need convincing. Comparing hotel rooms to our doggie bag take-outs isn't quite going to cut it.
