Finally, a place for those concerend about the energy crisis. Hippies and environmentalists visiting San Francisco later this summer will have a greener alternative to choose from when they stay in hotels.

The Orchard Garden Hotel is an 86-room addition to the existing boutique Orchard Hotel in Nob Hill that will use"

low-emission interior materials and energy and water-efficient fixtures. Rooms are scrubbed with citrus-based cleaning products and recycled paper is used throughout the facility.

Additionally, the room key card will also control the electricity. When a guest enters the room, he/she must put the card in a wall slot to turn on the lights. When the card is removed, the power goes out, except whatever's supplied to wall outlets.

All of this will reduce energy use at the hotel by 20 percent and the hotel is set to earn its Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council shortly before opening in July.

Let's hope they at least install nightlights so we don't trip trying to put the card into a slot on the wall.
