Beverly Hilton May Expand
The Beverly Hilton like any old broad in this town, has been undergoing some extensive plastic surgery over the past few years. Some of which has actually done a hotel good. Now comes word that the hotel is going to get a addition.
Owner Benny Alagem who saved the hotel from Merv Griffin's demise, is proposing a $500 million expansion that would add condo-towers, and thus change the existing Beverly Hills ordinance of a three-story height limit to 15-stories.
Alagem simply wants his property to get into the condo-hotel game and start looking better but residents are already in upheaval about the project who rightfully fear the already messy traffic outside the hotel (on the Santa Monica and Wilshire Boulevard intersection) could worsen. Alagem's peeps said they would try to mitigate traffic conditions but the construction process alone will be really messy.
More shocking developments reveal that the Trader Vic's restaurant could be removed. Room rates will rise (which were already upped $100 since Alagem's improvement) and the place would be renamed to the Beverly Hilton Oasis, thus adding Alagem's development company Oasis West to the hotel name.
So not only does he want to mess up the rush-hour traffic even more, he wants to do away with Trader Vic's? That's not cool. No matter how good the Hilton looks.
