Keep Stuff Safe

It's not like the Crown Jewels are located amongst your belongings, but it is awful when anything is stolen from your hotel room, even if it is only a 10- year-old day pack with nothing but three dirty t-shirts, a pair of Old Navy flip flops, and a copy of The Rules.

To prevent something truly valuable from going missing, check out these helpful loss prevention tips:

·  Room Safes: They are there for a reason, and that reason is to protect documents, jewels, money, gadgets, and your diary from maids or your traveling companion. Just watch out for any hidden charges.

·  Front Desk Safes: No room safes? No problem! Most hotels will let guests keep valuables at the front desk safe. Don't forget to request a receipt that your articles are stored there.

·  Lock `em Up: Luggage locks are great for make-shift safes, if you want to be sure no one will be going through your dirty laundry. Check out the variety at Magellan's.

·  Alarms for the Truly Paranoid: The Wireless Briefcase Monitor allows you to leave your belongings with peace of mind, knowing that this device will sound an ear-piercing siren if any "unauthorized movement" is detected. There is also a remote that can trigger the alarm from up to 15 meters away.

·  Make your own: Women (or men...) can use half empty tampon boxes to store passports and other valuables. Still, don't leave the box lying around--a maid might toss it thinking its garbage.

Other unlikely places a thief will search? Dirty underwear, wadded up tissues, your pants pockets, or toiletry bags.
