Hotel "Too Cool" Congress

Hotel Congress is hipster-approved. The hotel is from the 1930s and its rooms are retro-decor sans televisions and A/C. And the lobby, pictured above, is not keen on lighting. The Tap Room, an Old West "saloon" bar, the Cup Cafe restaurant and Club Congress are always filled with interesting locals and bands including a French pop singer who belts out love tunes.

But sometimes, too much coolness can be a bad thing:

The rest of the staff seems a little too concerned with working the "I'm an uber-hip artist/musician/poet/socialite who needs some cash but really don't want to actually do my job" angle. A fair portion of the waitstaff in the cafe came across as too cool and/or jaded to actually serve food. One of the evening front desk clerks was downright hostile to me for heading upstairs to the hotel rooms, one of which was mine for the night.

Should you subject yourself to the staff's nasty attitude, rooms are only $69 a night.

And we learned this little tidbit: "Two famous legends of Tucson work there, but you'll have to go there yourself to find out who they are!"

If you have been to Hotel Congress, let us know about these legends.
