Blowing Stuff Up is Cool

April 17, 2006 at 12:48 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

While you were racing to get your taxes finished on-time (or maybe you still are), the Hotel San Diego went out with a bang.

The hotel was brought down with 358 pounds of explosives at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. Crowds gathered to watch the old building come down, including a couple of 9-year-olds excited about stuff blowing up:

"A building exploding into a million pieces is really cool," said [one boy] "Plus, I've never seen dynamite explode before."

For the most part, people were happy that the building was coming down. Residents nearby in the city's new apartment buildings held "implosion parties" and one lamented that even though he met his wife in the hotel, his marriage ended in divorce--“Now, they are both history."

A new building for the U.S. District Court will be built on the property.
