A couple years back the resort renovated half the rooms on the property, so do yourself a favor and ask for a new room. Truth is, no matter which room you get you are likely to be unimpressed. The grounds are gorgreous, the location can't be beat, but the rooms are boring basic resort style boxes. The Lucaya Building with its simple, yet clean ocean front rooms might be your best bet. The property does however try to make up for their uninspired rooms by creating an incredible island atmosphere in and around the common areas. The grounds are meticulously cared for and at night candles are lit all over the property while the bar plays chill music.
Of all the properties we visited on Harbour Island, Coral Sands was the most crowded. Why? It is without a doubt the place for families on the island. The easy beach access, manageable pool area, and extras like a billards table make this place attractive to family travellers.
While the resort and its beachfront tiki huts were filled with families, this place still was not over crowded by any stretch of the imagination. This isn't Paradise Island, quite the opposite, this is a place for an island family vacation with a hint of fabulous. In other words, you won't have a problem scoring a resort beach chair.
The Upside:
The gorgeous expansive grounds will make you stop and take photos as you walk down to the beach. The location can't be beat--hands down the best spot on the island. Lunch at the Beach Bar is an expensive, but decadent experience. $16 burgers go down a lot easier when you are staring at one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
The Downside:
The rooms are uninspired and the service can be spotty. Furthermore, if you don't want to spend your vacation near children, this might not be the place for you.
The Crowd:
Super models and super Dads. Soccer Moms and brand new brides. Retirees and Young Turks. Yeah, it is that diverse. Probably the most diverse population of all the properties we visited on the island.
Bottom Line:
Where else can you see a young family of four building sand castles next to a couple of honeymooners and a pair of supermodels? If you stay elsewhere, stop by to check out the grounds and the crowd.
