Madrid Hotel Scene

Short Cut, a European city blog, pointed us to their recent post about sleek new hotels opening up in Madrid.

Just recently the Petit Palace, AC, and Vincci have opened, combining modern comfort and luxury with old-world archictecture.

Additionally, there will be a Hard Rock Hotel opening up in Madrid in the near future.

This is huge turn-around from the hotel of the 1980s and 90s. Reports Short Cut:

I spent my first night in [a pension] in Madrid, back in the early 1980s...The rooms were dark, the owners severe, and the "private bath" turned out to be a raised platform with a drain, located right in the middle of the room. I took one shower, flooded the place, and was forced to flee in shame....

Glad to see things are changing but we guess that there will be some guests fleeing from shame from the Hard Rock once it opens, but for entirely different reasons.
