[Ed. Note: This is Part One of our two-part posts on India today. What can we say? Vikram has inspired us. Enjoy.]

India is not often thought of as a hotspot to travel due to the possibility of getting strange stomach viruses, the slums, the air pollution, the hordes of people, and rolling blackouts.

But with so many companies investing in India (i.e. outsourcing) and the country's tech boom, India seems set up to make some huge advances. Indeedy, Newsweek has made India the new cover child, proclaiming it, "The New India."

National Geographic Traveler also sought out the "Authentic India" by profiling the city Jodhpur in their latest issue.

More on where to stay in India post-click.

Yes, Jodphur, is the origin of those horse-riding pants that equestrians wear. Apparently a local offiical in the Victorian era had to change his polo outfit after the ship carrying his uniform sank and he had the tailor come up with these pants.

There's a boutique hotel, Inn Season with 6 Suites and 5 rooms, along with a living room complete with a 1940s Normande radio gram.

Another small hotel, Ajit Bhawan was once a former royal palace and still retains its old-world elegance but with modern amenities like a restaurant and a workout center. Both hotels are extremely cheap, ranging from $33 to $122.

NG also recommends the Rawla Narlai about an outside of Jodhpur and the sister property of the Ajit. The one-time hunting lodge was recently reconstructed and renovated to create 26 hotel rooms.

Experience the hotel's Rawla Narlai Theme Dinner, which includes a magic show and a cart ride to Âmbâbâgh through village streets on a guided temple tour. There's 300 so you will be fully occupied.

All in all, some people might not be sold on India just yet but in the very near future, we'll be posting some dispatches from India so you can make the decision for yourself.
