Bad Rate: Peninsula Beverly Hills

[Ed. Note: Now it's time for the Bad Rate in our Good Rate/Bad Rate feature. Yesterday we saw Beverly Hills' Good Rate. Today we find the bad. Enjoy.]
The Beverly Hills Peninsula has an average room rate of $525. And that's not for a suite or anything. This is for one of the hotel's "regular" rooms. True, you do get amazing, outstanding service at the hotel and the finest lodgings. But the hotel sits on an extremely small lot on the busy corner of Santa Monica and Wilshire, where traffic is routinely stopped.
It just seems a bit much to ask for $525 and not even have an amazing view. We would maybe pay that much if we had an ocean view with a private terrace leading out to the beach.
Despite this, wealthy clientele obviously enjoy the place since one guest had a problem at the hotel pool.
One big problem is the very small pool area. It was a nice weekend so we wanted to spend some time at the pool. NO ROOM at the pool. We where told we needed to make reservations. This was not for a cabana but for just a lounge chair. I was told to come back in a few hours and see if something would come up. At these prices I dont think I should wait or make a reservation to enjoy the pool.
You might be better off at the The Beverly Hills Hotel where rooms are not that much cheaper but the hotel grounds are legendary, there's a quaint coffee shop on the bottom floor and of course, room by the pool without reservations.
