Bad Rate: Blue Moon Hotel

NewYorkology has stepped inside the long-awaited Blue Moon Hotel in New York's Lower East Side.
After many false alarms the hotel has been accepting guests while in its soft opening phase. That's your first clue there. Soft opening. Some people like to take advantage of the deals during these phases but that often means several things aren't ready yet.
At the Blue Moon, a two-level kosher restaurant will open later this spring and the planned wine bar will open later summer. There's also no patio furniture for the rooms with balconies and maybe more tellingly, there were no guests at the hotel when NewYorkology stopped in.
As for decor, when the plans for the Blue Moon were revealed, the room design renderings showed sleek decor. But photos after the renovations were completed show some interesting furnishings complete with mementos found in the abandoned building before construction began. NewYorkology says:
The carpet has a "Victorian feel," (which along with the bedspreads, might make you think not only "period feel" but "grandma’s house.")
Now onto the rates. Starting rates are $275 for weekdays and $330 on weekends. But the rooms could skyrocket from $390 for a regular suite to $1,050 for a larger suite. Not bad for a former tenement building, but definitely bad for your wallet. We suggest saving your pennies until the hotel hits its groove.
