Hotel Hype: Thompson Beverly Hills

March 27, 2006 at 8:29 AM | by | ()

The NY Post says you "can't swing a Frette bathrobe without bumping into yet another new hotel chain these days." But the paper feels that the talk is all smoke and mirrors and we agree.

This week we will be presenting all the latest news on hotels that have been announced but have yet to materialize.

We start off with our favorite Hotel Hyper, Jason Pomeranc of 6 Columbus notoriety. The announcement for a Thompson Beverly Hills (created out of the existing Best Western Beverly Hills) was made last August with an opening date of March 2006. Currently, the hotel remains a Best Western.

Now the Dodd Mitchell-designed hotel is set for Fall 2006 which is when renovations are expected to be done. There could be some truth to this opening prediction as we recently noticed a permit in the window to do construction for a larger fitness center and a rooftop pool scene. Though the sign was dated January 25, the matter is still under consideration.

We just hope Pomeranc can live up to the opening hype (i.e. open on time) and not force guests to stay in a half-opened, half-completed hotel a la 6 Columbus.

Re: Hotel Hype: Thompson Beverly Hills

Beware of this hotel. Our Range Rover was stolen after the valet could not find the car key. The "secure" parking basement accessible only by an auto elevator was apparently not so secure. The hotel has not been very concerned about the loss of our $75,000 car even after a day and a half.
