If you can afford to spend $500+ on a hotel room per night, you should consider the The Tides Hotel , also on Ocean Drive just a few steps away from the Hotel Victor.

The 12 story hotel sort of reminds you of the Titanic with its ocean liner elements like "porthole windows, stainless steel and frosted glass." Inside the rooms come equipped with king beds and large closes and supposedly, telescopes. But one guest had some issues with the rooms.

The hotel rooms fail to approach the rooms pictured on the website. The website advertises a calming see of white with unobstructed ocean views, and a telescope to boot. The view in my room was obstructed because of the Tides facade and there was no telescope. I was left to look at...stained furniture, a cheap rattan desk chair, and office-like carpet. The desk furniture is not a clean red but rather cream and chipped. Also do yourself a favor and dont look behind the chipped mirrors into the rusted medicine cabinets.

This guest complained to the manager and was upgraded to a junior suite with an amazing corner view, but was still a little miffed. However, he did discover that the hotel would be undergoing extensive renovation in May.

More pictures including guest's disapointing room post-click.

Aside from a pending renovation, some more good news is that there is complementary Wi-Fi in the hotel lobby and poolside.

If you can't afford the $500 a night then you can do what everyone else does and sit outside on the hotel steps and people watch. (Also, good news for gay men. A fabulous gay bar is right next door.)
