Not wanting to publish this anonymous tip straightaway, we called over to 6 Columbus (formely called the West Park Hotel) who informed us that the hotel is in the process of being officially transferred into the hands of Thompson Hotels, run by Pomeranc. "It will open this Summer," they told us.
However, despite all the construction and limited number of rooms finished, the hotel is still running some sort of in-between hotel, but when folks arrive at "6 Columbus" light they don't see any Pomeranc magic, just this:.
Okay without a doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in alot! Terribly old rooms that bordered on a health scare and completely misrepresented on the internet. Generally unhelpful staff that coudn't care less. The first room had a window that wouldn't close shut and the after they jammed it shut we couldn't open it again which was a problem since the radiator was turned up so high I had to leave my room for a brisk walk around 3am both nights we stayed.
And you wonder why we laughed out loud when a tipster sent us an email if Allen St. would still open in September.
If your travel plans include the West Park Hotel/6 Columbus amalgamation, you may want to reconsider until the renovations are complete, whenever that is.
Why Pomeranc has waited this long to open, we can only wonder. Maybe six years is appropriate to open a place called 6 Columbus. Or maybe he wanted to open in in the year 2006. All we know is that Vikram Chatwal despite drunk and possibly impotent managed to get his Night Hotel open.
