Harbour Island: Old School Beach Resort

The Dunmore Beach Club is old school. Blue hairs and beach chairs. The kind of place where a fellow guest might turn to and start a sentence with, "when I was your age"...

Sure the Dunmore is in dire need of a renovation. The grounds are looking a little warn, compared to it's high class neighbors, and the rooms are ordinary, if not a bit dated. However, the Dunmore is a friendly place. Both the staff and the fellow guests will usually greet you with a smile. Furthermore, the Dunmore puts fresh ice tea and sunscreen down by the beach for guests to enjoy and serves fresh baked cookies every afternoon. This place even has an honor bar on the premises, a freakin' honor bar in 2006!
While the cottages are simple and somewhat dated, they come with ample private space and many have an unbeatable view.
If someone came along and renovated this place, keeping its historic persona, this place could be a huge draw. However, our guess is the "regulars" might not go for such a change. Time will tell.
The Upside:
This place is a classic beach resort from a forgotten time, and that is cool. Probably your best bet for a Harbour Island beachfront "bargain" hotel room.
The Downside:
It is what it is. Old.
The Crowd:
Old school snow birds and honeymoon couples with old souls.
Bottom Line:
Location to die for. A typical day at Dunmore might be: read a book on the beach, get involved in a mean game of Scrabble, have a few too many sundowners.
