Peninsula's Power Checker
March 10, 2006 at 10:28 AM | 0 Comments
USA Today goes behind the scenes of the Peninsula Hotel Beverly Hills during Oscar weekend.
And what do they find? General manager Ali Kasikci.
Kasikci is the man responsible for upping the hotel's profile and keeping the rooms at an 85%, occupancy rate. Yet even though Kasikci invented the 24-hour check-in he's not above personally inspecting rooms and doing some furntiure climbing.
The man works 11-hour days, wears Hermes and expensive suits, argues that valet parkers must not change radio settings or chair positions, and is described at the Energizer bunny with salt and pepper hair.
Some of the goings and comings of the hotel:
· An Oscar-winning actress checks in and demands her favorite waiter and calls screened.
· A filmmaker tries to wrangle a free stay in exchange for putting the hotel in his movie. Kasikci wants to see the script.
· Kasikci once flew to London just to retrieve a regular's Jack Russell terrier, of course charging $15,000.
Geez, now we feel sort of bad for calling the hotel out on their room rate of $525. Who knew you would be getting such a diligent armoire-checker?
