The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that more than 100 people who dined at the Drake Hotel in Chicago over the weekend have become sick with a stomach-like flu and authorities believe it may be another case of the Norwalk Virus, which affected nearly 1,000 people on a cruise ship in 2003.
A fundraiser for the Children's Medical Research Foundation Inc. was held at the hotel over the weekend, and 120 of the 190 people who attended got sick. Eight went to the ER but most were recovering within 48 hours.
The Drake Hotel has been doing a "top-to-bottom" cleaning of its kitchens and is working with public health staff to go over food-handling practices to prevent spread of the virus. A hotel spokesman said "our immediate priority is to care for our guests and staff."
Shouldn't they have gone over food-handling practices before the fundraiser or like on a daily basis?
