Become a Bed Bug Ninja

[Update: Phase II Ninja Training Begins]

As you stealth Bed Bug Ninjas already know, Dateline's story on Bed Bugs aired on March 19 prominently featuring stories from our Hotel Mavens. Thank you for your reports.

However, while television training is over, a ninja's work is never truly done which is why we introduce Phase II of training. We are asking you to not only let us know which hotels have bed bugs but also be able to help out your fellow ninjas by posting your stories, thoughts and advice on bed bugs so that every hotel guest can be on the lookout for bugs and hopefully squash them once and for all.

[Update: New call for bed bug ninjas]

Unless you have been living in cave, you are probably aware that more and more hotel guests are reporting nasty encounters with bed bugs.

The past couple of months we have seen an uptick in bed bug emails in our inbox, and ya know what? We are sick of writing about bed bug incidents--they freak us out.

So now we are enlisting the help of Bed Bug Ninjas. Anyone can become a Bed Bug Ninja, just be stealthy, lightining quick, and use email like a throwing star to take down the enemy-- hotel bed bugs.

See how you can help post jump

Luckily for all of us, a group of folks stand ready and willing to assist us in recruiting ninjas and the overall bed bug outing quest. So, we are turning to you to help us find these bed bugs, but remember, it is important you move fast when you spot these critters.

Here is how it works. If you happen to get a room where you notice bed bugs, email us immediately, like throwing a ninja steel star, and depending on your location, we may send some of our bed-bug-outing friends to your hotel room to document the nightmare--don't worry, they are nice people.

A couple caveats:

First, to hotels that say we are trying to create a big deal out of a problem that doesn't exist. If that is the case, folks won't send us any emails now will they? Also, if you are a hotel that takes extra care to make sure these critters don't invade your property, let us know about what you do.

Second, you have to be a guest at a U.S. hotel to take part in this experiment, sorry Londoners. Furthermore, since bed bug complaints are on such an upswing in New York, we highly encourage New York hotel guests to respond to this call.

Lastly, we can't guarantee that every bed bug horror story will be documented. But at the end of the day, all we are trying to do here is assist in solving this problem so that guests don't have to endure bed bugs, hotels get better at eradicating the bugs, and we don't have to write about bed bugs or look at pictures of bed bugs any longer. Hopefully by calling some attention to this problem, the offending hotels will put more of an effort into keeping the bugs out of the rooms, making life in hotels peaceful for everyone again.

    Bed bug registry

I found a great resource that will become more valuable over time.  It is a website where you can report bed bugs found.  You can report an address or a hotel/motel.  The website is www.bedbugregistry.com.
