After we recovered from our celeb sightings, we slipped away from the wine-tasting event to skulk around this dark hotel a bit. (It's dark everywhere in this hotel as our camera will testify.)

We ventured to the second-floor and strolled along the balcony overlooking the lobby. We peeked into the Oscar room which we doubt is where the first Oscars took place because it was rather small. However, it does have stunning views of seedy Hollywood Boulevard. Otherwise than that there was nothing really special on that floor, except an abandoned pool table and the gift shop where you can buy funky and weird Hollywood souveniers.

As for the rooms, a person attending the winetasting and staying at the hotel mentioned that their rooms were "very nice and spacious" but did not mention whatsoever any Bowie or Jagger pictures hanging above the bed as was reported on TripAdvisor:

Rooms are updated and trendy - concrete floors in baths (odd half-shower door), a picture above the bed of Bowie/Jagger. An old hotel with an extensive fave-lift, but not much beneath the surface. Good sheets and pillows. Directly across from Chinese theater, cement handprints, etc. Price was dirt cheap for LA, and would have been fun for a night or two, but it became old quickly.

Saving the best for last, we headed over to the Tropicana Bar and hung pool-side for a bit, where a small film set was set up and cameras rolling but unfortunately, no star wattage there. We do have to say it's a rather large-sized pool for an LA-area hotel.

Overall, the hotel is an amazing piece of architecture and is an enjoyable place to hang out despite being in a somewhat seedy stretch of Hollywood Boulevard. But since it obviously caters to the celebrity clientele and nightlife, it will be interesting to see what happens when the next hotel darling comes to town.
