President's Week: Vail Hotels

February 6, 2006 at 9:05 AM | by juliana | 0 Comments

President's Week begins on Feb. 20 and is very much akin to Martin Luther King Weekend where the hotels won't give out any special room packages or deals so as to capitalize on the popular vacation week.

Nevertheless if you find yourself headed to Vail, Colorado with money to burn or are thinking about a trip for next year, here are some options.

The Sonnenalp Resort was voted #1 on TripAdvisor's popularity index.

Nestled in the heart of Vail Village and steps away from the slopes, the hotel features 88 luxury suites and is crazy expensive during the winter time, with rates ranging from $435 to $2,400 in the winter time. If you haven't booked a room here yet, wait until late March when the  prices cool down to about $230.

The hotel is also fond of deer antlers as they appear to be in every suite of the hotel.

Currently this hotel has availability during the week before President's Week but not during. This might be a good thing because according to one guest, is that the hotel is undergoing a major construction project (which really doesn't make sense to us--couldn't they do this over the summer?)

The hotel is undergoing a major construction project at the present time. Our room was not affected, but some other guests complained of noise.

The Vail Mountain Marriott Resort & Spa on the other hand as availability but for about $430 a night. The hotel has a great location in Lionshead Village, just 150 yards from the Eagle Bahn gondola that takes you to the top of the mountain.

The Eagle Point Resort as one guest put it is "not the Ritz" but does offer a slightly cheaper alternative at $230 for a one-bedroom. Another downside? It does not have the location of the Marriott or the Sonnenalp and you have to rely on shuttle services to get to town.
