Sunset Tower Making Its Way
We got happy when we saw this morning that the NY Post has been in Los Angeles checking out some of the area hotels. Then we got sad. Why didn't you call us?
Anyways, the paper was in town for the Oscars scope-out and hit up the Sunset Tower Hotel which seems to have picked it up in the past few weeks.
Inside, the "seductive, 1940s-esque rooms make the mod white pods that have proliferated in recent years seem terribly dated." Interesting, but did they turn on the television?
We learn that the spa used to be John Wayne's apartment but we have never heard the term "rabbit warren" before to describe the treatment rooms, and salon. (It's a a series of connected underground tunnels occupied by rabbits.) There's also something called a sexed-up hammam which we had to look up. When we found out it was a turkish bath, we think it probably shouldn't be described as "sexed-up" nor a rabbit warren. This is West Hollywood, after all.
But there are still some glitches, the front desk is a little "nonplussed", especially when trying to find some lint brushes.
A recent guest had the misfortune to stay there during a Golden Globes party where the staff was not particularly attentive to any "normal guests":
The tone of service was the most irritating aspect of our stay. It was self important, cold and frankly incongruous with a hotel of this stature.
He must not have checked out the sexy rabbits in the hammam.
