Seal Cove Inn
Everyone seems to have good things to say about Seal Cove Inn in Half Moon Bay, California.
The designer behind it is Karen Brown Herbert, a travel writer who publishes the Karen Brown Guides, so she knows a thing or two about nice places to stay.
It's also the ultimate Bed & Breakfast for citydwellers looking to escape San Francisco, because it's only a half-hour away in the seaside village of Moss Beach. Most of the guests are couples who dig the fireplaces in each room and views of the ocean. The clientele also skews a little bit towards seniors but not that we are ageist or anything. Even some venture capital firms have their offsite retreats there. One guest offered up her take on the B&B experience.
My room was the Ascot. It had high cathedral ceilings and a patio that looked out over a wild flower garden and cypress trees with just a peek of the ocean. The fridge was stocked with COMPLIMENTARY sodas and wine. There was wood to burn in the fire place and free videos from an extensive list to play in the VCR. With an afgan for my feet and a comfy chair, (I was having an alone weekend without the kids) I was in heaven.
As you can tell, the in-room amenities may not top of the line (A VCR? What's that?) and the bathrooms are reported to be a bit old, but people also rave about the B&B's breakfast which you can have in their small dining room or in the comfort of your room. As one HotelChatter tipster told us, "The breakfasts are to die for!"
