Kimpton Hits Up Los Angeles

February 15, 2006 at 4:11 PM | 0 Comments

The Kimpton Hotels Group has just announced that they will be opening up a new boutique hotel in Los Angeles by renovating the existing Doubletree Hotel in Westwood, along the Wilshire corridor.

Spinning off the company's San Fran Hotel Palomar, the new addition to the family shall be called Hotel Palomar Los Angeles - Westwood.  The 18-story hotel will be remodeled throughout, increasing the existing suite count, adding a spa and opening a Kimpton chef-driven restaurant. The Doubletree will close this summer and the Hotel Palomar will open in Summer 2007.

Additional Hotel Palomars will open in other cities such as Dallas, Texas, Arlington, Virginia, and Washington D.C. in the coming years.

This current renovation seems to the latest in a new hotel trend in Los Angeles: taking lower-cost hotel chains and flipping them into boutique hotels.

For example, The Angeleno is opening in the existing Holiday Inn and the Thompson Beverly Hills is taking over the Best Western

Which leads us to wonder is Hotel California next?
