Now, back to South America. For the ideal beach resort break in Chile, the Viña del Mar area is definitely one of the top spots. And today we're getting our tips on where to stay from Gene Smith's Atomiq blog. Last month Gene stayed in the cheerful Hotel Monterilla near the coast:

We booked the Monterilla at the last minute by text message, and it turned out to be a great starting point for exploration. We had easy access to South Vina and the microbuses to Valparaiso, and we were two blocks from the beach and one from the casino. They also serve a good drip coffee with breakfast (and after a few days of Nescafe, that's something I could really appreciate).

No complaints there. Hotel Monterilla's owners boast that "personal attention is our philosophy", so if they ever start to let you down, just point this out: it screams at you in all caps--twice--on their website.
