When a movie about the environmental crisis is likely to win an Academy Award, you can't help but take note of the changes happening around us....like why was is 60 degrees in New York City yesterday?....and this goes for hotels too.

The idea of a "green" hotel at first sounds sort of scary, especially to those used to five-star wasteful luxury. You wonder, are the beds made of hemp? Will the lighting make me look translucent?  Will room service be bean sprouts and tempeh?

Thankfully, the first review for San Francisco's newly-opened Orchard Garden Hotel is in and it makesgoing "green" sound alright...once they get the kinks out:

Being brand new, the Hotel is sparkling clean, with clean contemporary lines, warm colors and not a hint of cigarette smoke as this is a non-smoking property. The rooms follow suit. No "fresh carpet" or "new paint" odors, clean contemporary furnishings and nicely appointed with organic linens (w/ down comforters) and Aveda toiletries... Despite receiving email confirmation, we had no reservation on file when we checked-in, however, there was no problem getting the room we specified.

Ok, so they aren't perfect just yet, but with all the organic-ness and recyclable materials, the hotel gets points for good karma.
