HotelChatter's Rocking New Year's Eve: Tribeca Grand's Own Ball Drop

So we can understand that most of you don't want to spend New Year's Eve standing around freezing in Times Square. But what to do if you still want to head to NYC to ring in 2007?

Luckily for all of us, the Tribeca Grand is putting on their very own ball drop in its 8-story atrium during the hotel's New Year's Eve Soiree in the Church Lounge. What's even better is that this ball drop will be done the "original" way with ropes and stopclocks, unlike the new computerized ball drop in Times Squre.

The ball drop at the Tribeca will pay tribute to the old method thanks to [hotel owner] Tony Fant's nostalgia - the ball has been built from scratch by talented New Jersey based sculptural artist and metal fabricator Darren Vigilant....Vigilant has replicated the 1953 incarnation of the Times Square ball, with a slightly smaller version measuring 4' in diameter (the original was 6') studded with over 220 white light globes of 25 watts each attached to a spherical aluminum frame.

As for the party, Aaron La Crate and DJ Jaclyn will be providing the tunes from 9pm to 2am with passed hors d'oeurves for $149 a person. If you spring for premium seating at $299 a person, you get the gourmet buffet from 9pm to 12am along with party favors and a champagne toast at midnight. To step it up a notch further, the reserved seating at $249 a person will get you all of the above plus an open bar from 9pm to 2am.

Meanwhile over at the Soho Grand, the hotel is hosting a Black & White Masquerade Ball featuring DJ Prince Language & DJ Lindsey. Black & White formal attire is required and the same pricing applies. Also both hotels offer a New Year's Day brunch from 10am to 3pm for $29.99. For reservations at the Tribeca Grand call 212-965-3278 or email reservations@tribecagrand.com. Similary call the Soho Grand at 212- 965-3278 or email reservations@sohogrand.com.
