Best Hotel Gyms for Those Who Can't Miss One Set or One Rep

December 14, 2006 at 3:06 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Rock Climbing at the Venetian's Canyon Ranch Spa.

This one's for the road warrior who can't bear to miss a day of working out while traveling.

The Athletic Minded Traveler has put together their eleven Best Hotel Gyms for 2006. Looking over the 3,000 hotel gyms in the U.S. (but we assume, not actually testing them) the ranking is based on gyms that have the best facility size, equipment options,  mult-sport options (like a pool) and overall ambience/atmosphere.

Or as they describe it:

On very rare occasions we stumble upon a hotel gym that rattles our sweat-craving souls and excites our aerobically fit tickers the moment we walk in. Finding one of these treasures is our "kid in the candy store" moment. And the only action that delights us more than uncovering one of these exercise utopias is relaying the discovery to our fellow athletic-minded travelers.

See which hotels made the AMT people practically orgasm during their workout after the jump.

  1. The Houstonian, Houston, Texas
  2. The Park Hyatt at Belleview, Philadelphia
  3. Four Seasons, San Francisco
  4. Embassy Suites Lakefront, Chicago
  5. Venetian, Las Vegas
  6. Bellevue Club, Bellevue, Wash.
  7. Inn at Ponte Vedra, Ponte Vedra, Florida
  8. Grand Hotel, Minneapolis
  9. JW Marriott Grande Lakes, Orlando
  10. Ritz Carlton Boston Common
  11. Le Meridien, New York

Obviously, since we've only stayed at one of the hotel's on the list, that being the Venetian, we are assuming that this list does not take into account gym fees. The Venetian is an amazing place but that $35 gym fee is beyond irksome. You probably get the same intensity of a work-out by running from the casino to casino.

However, the Le Meridien, the Park Hyatt, and the Grand Hotel offer complimentary passes. Another hotel offering complimentary gym passes that isn't just for a tiny room with one treadmill and one set of weights? The Short Hills Hilton in New Jersey. There's an aerobics studio with daily scheduled classes and a good amount of machines and an indoor pool. But then again, you're in New Jersey.
