Where The Hotel Staff Knows Your Name

[Ed. Note: Hotel Maven Picky Chick shares with us her favorite hotel staff experience. Enjoy.]

On a recent business trip to London, I had the glorious experience of staying at The Soho Hotel. I'm gonna tell you right now...the website does NOT do it justice.

Your arrival begins with a greeting from an absolutely humungous Buddha cat and remarkably put together staff. As you check in you notice the uniforms look less like uniforms and more like...well...what you have on. The vibe at the Soho is that you are all on the same level...we are all family here.

One of the best parts about the staff at the Soho is that in their fabulous "Honor Bar," which is located in one of two "drawing rooms" just off the main lobby, there isn't any. That's right...nope, no one, not a single person there to bring you warmed nuts or a chilled martini. Why is that a good thing? Well, instead, there is a small bar where you actually make your own cocktail. Sign your name, room number and what concoction you made and off you are to enjoy your drink...hence the name "Honor Bar."

Don't get any crazy ideas though (as I found out when a rowdy member of Brit society decided to take his pants off and three security guards quickly swept in and disposed of the riff-raff), there are cameras everywhere and this just isn't that kind of hotel.
