Bad Rate: Gotta Pay to Play Kid-free at Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun
[Ed. Note: This is the Bad Rate in our Good Rate/Bad Rate feature. This rate was valid on Nov 7, 2006 and is subject to change. Enjoy.]

If you're just looking for a beach break and some cocktails, does $510 a night plus tax make sense in Mexico? When it's not even high season?
We pulled up the first weekend in December--not exactly a busy time on the Caribbean coast of Mexico---and were quoted a rate of $510 per night at Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun.
Four ideas stuffed into one name already gives us feelings of pretention, but we also would have serious trouble paying three times the price of our good rate this week at the Grand Oasis Riviera Maya, especially since the premium seems to be because the resort is "adults only."
Yes, we're sure the name-stuffed Capri has a bit fancier linens and with this rate you're assured some view of the water (without a view it's $387), but who hangs out in their room at these all-inclusive resorts anyway?
Early December is supposed to be low season in Mexico, which is why most resorts are running all kinds of deals to get people to forget about visiting relatives at Thanksgiving and shopping for holiday presents. Not here though. The rates also do not include airport transfers (43 miles away) and Internet access requires a fee. This is an adults-only resort, so no "kids stay free" policy like the Oasis has obviously.
