Bayonne Gets Classy with a Holiday Inn

November 15, 2006 at 2:31 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Perhaps Bayonne is feeling a little left out since Hoboken and Jersey City (to some extent) have made huge comebacks from being basically untouchable cities 15 years ago.

So in order to compete, the town is getting a brand-spanking-new Holiday Inn to open up near the exclusive Liberty National Golf Club. Now, this doesn't quite make sense considering that this club is supposed to be the most expensive and prestigious one in the nation. Thus, isn't a Four Seasons more appropriate?

Blogger The Life Vicarious reports:

this is a golf club that attracts play by Michael Bloomberg, Bill Clinton and George HW Bush - wasn't any other chain interested? and did no five-star resort see the potential in riverside property with views of the Statue of Liberty and easy ferry access to Manhattan? (the Mandarin Oriental and Ritz Carlton Battery Park both boast Statue of Liberty views from their higher-end rooms but neither could offer that plus the views of Manhattan this property would boast.)

God, this makes the W Hoboken look like a genius idea.

On the bright side, the blog reports that the "Sopranos" recently filmed an episode in Bayonne although the only fee the city charged was pictures with James Gandolfini. Way to go, Jersey. Way to go.
