More and more eco-hotels are taking off right here in the U.S. so that we don't have to play with monkeys outside our hotel room when we want to stay at an earth-friendly inn.

The new Hotel Green in Nantucket was designed by Vanessa Noel, a shoe designer. Just what does a shoe designer know about the hotel industry? Actually a lot since this is Noel's second hotel in Nantucket.

The first is aptly named the Vanessa Noel Hotel and gets average reviews. But, this is her first stab at the eco-genre. And if you're wondering if there's enough hippies in Nantucket to support this place, then you're in the wrong mind set as Noel tells T+L:

I'm tired of people thinking that organic means hippie," says Vanessa Noel... In the center of town, adjacent to her shoe shop, Hotel Green has an organic restaurant and 10 guest rooms that combine Noel's eye for design with substance: mod chairs made from recycled cardboard sit on jute rugs ("So earth-friendly," she jokes, "you could put them in your garden"); neon Pop-Art prints hang on walls covered with milk-based paints. Even the cleaning products are all-natural.

You won't get much from Hotel Green's website. It's conserving energy or something by simply stating its phone number. But we can tell you that doubles start at $200.

Now we're curious as to the eco-friendly-ness of her shoe collection?
