The above photo was taken from room 633 at New York's Soho Grand Hotel, where we stayed earlier this week.

Last year, after our brief visit to the Soho Grand, we gave the hotel a list of unsolicited suggestions. Soho Grand was cool enough to reply to us, and a year later, we decide to visit the Soho Grand to see if she did indeed stay classy.

What did we find? Well, last year we had to pay $400 for our mid-week one night stay, and this year? Over $500. The price came as no real shock, as $500 hotel stays in downtown New York are run-of-the-mill this fall--yeah, depressing we know.

Rates aside, what we were really interested in was the Soho Grand's follow through concerning renovations.

After the jump take a look at last year's suggestions, along with this year's takes and more photos.

Fix your WiFi network
Check. Much like at Tribeca Grand, the free lobby WiFi extended to room 633 without an issue.

Remodel Your Rooms
Carpets, cabinetry, and furniture do appear new, and as promised, texture and natural material rule the roost. Not sure if the bedding is new, but it is more comfortable than we remember--could be psycosymatic. And yes, Soho now is on the flat screen television bandwagon, though we are not sure we would have gone with Benq televsions, but hey, it is all a matter of tech taste.

Keep up the Killer Ambiance
The ambiance was less killer than last year. Two of the three bars were closed (Yard & Grand Bar & Lounge), but it was a mid-week night. Yet once again all of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Absolutely no trendy boutique hotel attitude present during our visit.

Bottom Line
The renovations are not going to blow you away, but that probably wasn't what was intended. Subtle differences and the service remained at a high level, so ok, we are willing to say the Soho Grand stayed classy despite underwhelming us with the room renovations.
