Movie Set Hotel: 'Ace Ventura' and The Tides
While we're not quite done with discovering what celebrities are staying in what hotels, we are taking a page from baby bro Jaunted's playbook this week by looking at hotels that have appeared in movies. However, we are eschewing the cliche movie hotels like those that appeared in"Pretty Woman" and "The Shining." Instead, we are looking at recent movies or little-known hotel cameos. If you happen to be a movie hotel buff, send us your fave appearances.

Remember back in the mid-90s when Miami was just full of old people from New York instead of hip boutique hotels with 20-something-year-old guests from New York?
Well in case you forgot, simply rent "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective." In the opening scene, Ace (Jim Carrey obviously) is posing as a delivery man in hopes of rescuing a stolen dog. After doing cartwheels with the package, where does Ace go to deliver the package? The Tides Hotel. Only back then it wasn't a hotel, it was a run-down apartment building. Built in 1936, the Tides started out as an apartment building before turning into a hotel in the 1950s. Somewhere along the way, probably during the financial scandals Miami endured in the 80s and 90s, the hotel was a run-down dwelling.
Until Ace Ventura came along. Well, actually it was the Island Outpost family who gutted the place and did major renovations to it in 1997. But they probably saw the movie, right? Today the place is a Kor Hotels property and while there are still people drinking on the front steps, they are drinking $15 mojitos.
More pictures of the Tides back then after the jump.
