The average temperature for Paris in February will be about 46 degrees but who cares? It will be 75 degrees and sunny with some smog in LA upon our return.
The Four Seasons George V which Mandy Moore and Zach Braff recently visited, is offering the "As Romantic as Paris" package for Valentine's Day.
Once again, money is no object. So for plunking down some chump change to the tune of $875 a night, for a minimum of two nights, we will receive:
· Luxurious accommodations
· A bottle of champagne in room upon arrival
· American breakfast for up to two adults daily, at Le Cinq, La Galerie or through In-Room Dining
· A three-day museum-and-monument pass for up to two adults, for access to various Paris sites
· A spa certificate worth EUR 50 per person (only one certificate applicable for single occupancy)
· Les Fleurs de Jeff Leatham, a book by the Hotel's American floral designer, Jeff Leatham
The hotel has a prime location near the Eiffel Tower, the Seine, the Champs Elysees and the Louvre, although with such luxurious accomodations, one may not venture outside much.
Yet, according to snobbish TripAdvisor reviewer there is a sort of "Nouveau Riche" atmosphere to this unapologetically American-in-Paris hotel.
The service at the Four Seasons George V, while exceptional, is in general too nouveau riche in taste: too friendly, too profusely accommodating, too, too much!!!! Is it THAT necessary always for the restaurant staff to accompany monsieur or madame out of Le Cinq to the toilettes???? Frivolous and embarrasing! But we have to give them credit for doing so with such gusto:"Je vous accompagne!"
See? This hotel is full-service. You would not have to lift a finger. Not even in the toilette!
But back to reality. Since money is an object, onto the other side of the Seine to Hotel Le Walt. For about $290 a night, the hotel's 25 guestrooms are complete with all modern accessories and eye-pleasing decor. Some rooms offer views of the Eiffel Tower, but be careful which rooms you get.
Another TripAdvisor reviewer made an excellent suggestion:
However, DO NOT accept rooms 701 or 702 if you are a light sleeper (like me.) The rooms are on the ground floor, off the courtyard. You'll hear every train which pulls through the station below, from 5:00am until 1:00am. The management wouldn't move us, saying the hotel was full (for 5 nights??).
On the plus side, the Metro stop is right outside.
Also, the headboards for the hotel beds are over-sized portraits done by local artists, which can look a little bit scary. There were mixed reviews about the staff (certainly no accompanying to the bathroom) but it's France, what else can you expect?
So now, we sit and wait for the day when we really can Escape from LA.

This is unfortunately what Los Angeles looks like much of the year. Smoggy. Aside from clogging your pores and aging your skin, smog also takes about 10 years off your life. Really, in Los Angeles there is no reason to quit smoking. The smog will getcha in the end.
