January 3, 2006 at 11:51 AM | 0 Comments

Room for more rooms that is. New York has about 79,000 hotel rooms, and is expected to add an additional 5,000 more over the next 18 months.

So where are the new developments?

Sixteen new hotels are slated to open in 2006, among them:
Marriott Courtyards on the Upper East Side and in Harlem, Wingate Inns in Queens and Midtown, Holiday Inn Express in Brooklyn, Hilton Garden Inn in Tribeca and Four Points by Sheraton in SoHo.

And then there are the cotels:
You can invest in a permanent hotel room (aka a home) at either the St. Regis Hotel New York or Gramercy Park Hotel-- both are opening this spring with some residential units.
No more vacations at the Stanhope Hotel, it's reopening as a residential complex.

And of course, you can always follow our favorites NYC 2006 hotel openings here.
