Budget Travel Online has gone to Costa Rica in search of "sexy, mellow" hotels.

Most of the nine hotels selected by the mag are small-sized with a handful of bungalows or cabins instead of high-rise buildings or sprawling resorts. Also, they are very reasonable price-wise, which when all are combined is probably the correct definition of sexy and mellow.

Casa Caletas in San Francisco de Coyote is the most isolated hotel on the list. It sits high up on a bluff overlooking the Coyote River and the Pacific. All nine rooms have private patios and "abstract art made from reeds." If you choose the hotel's only junior suite, you get a private hot tub.

There's also an infinity pool and numerous options for outdoor, adventuresome activities like fishing, kayaking and waterskiing.

As BT points out the only downside is that a beach is a mile away and you would have to rent a golf cart to get there. At the price of $130 a day for peace and quiet at this mellow hotel, that might not be so bad.

Our other picks of the list include the Point Break hotel purely because of the name, (and also because its near the beach) along with The Place because it sounds like where the cast of Saved By the Bell or 90210 would go if they went to Costa Rica.

The full list of BT's picks post-click.

All hotels are in the Southern Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica and most of them are a surfer's definition of paradise so be prepared to hang 10 and pray for surf, brah.
