The Sunset Marquis has a history of Hollywood hook-ups.

On the 3.5 acre grounds, Billy Bob & Angelina swapped spit, Vince and Jen trysted, and Brad allegedly negotiated his divorce from inside a Sunset Marquis Villa.

Nope, we didn't see any secret celebrity couples while we were at the Sunset Marquis. However, we did see that the grounds were under major construction.

Don't worry, all this construction doesn't really seem to affect the guests--at least not yet. Furthermore, a new pool area is being built, which is a good thing, because the two existing pool areas are flawed. The first is half indoors half outdoors, kinda like Texas Stadium, and the second is tucked away in a small, mostly shady area of the property.

The grounds are split into two areas: a slightly worn, motel like building that houses most of the 100+ rooms and behind it is a large area filled with winding lush gardens where 10 or so villas accommodate the well off guests.

This hotel is tucked away in a kick ass location just below Sunset; and out of all the hotels we visited, the Sunset Marquis gave off the strongest Hollywood vibe. Though not because of the crowds -- the place was near empty most of the time. However, the folks who occupied the hotel's rooms and common areas spent their time power lunching, reading scripts, and talking shop.

More Photos and an Interesting Matrix Theory Post Click

Overheard at the Sunset Marquis:

·   You have to name drop if you want to get someone attached to your project. For instance, I know Ann Getty, she is a friend of mine--that is a big deal.

·   I stay here every time I am in town, I won't stay anywhere else.

·   Did you know the Matrix was a stolen idea? Yeah. This women submitted the Matrix, or something Matrix like, to some sort of writing contest and the Wachowski's stole her idea. No, really, she won in court. She is a billionaire now.*

*Note: We did a little research on this Matrix theft comment and according to the interweb their appears to be at least a grain of truth to this theory. Exhibit A.  Exhibit B.  Decide for yourself whether Sophia Stewart is the "Mother of the Matrix."

This hotel definitely elicits strong opinions that seem to directly correlate to how much a guest paid for their room. So if you can get a room at a decent price, you should be happy with your stay, however if you pay too much, you will be cursing this place in the comments area below.  Good luck hotel mavens, and as always, report back.
