Grafton on Sunset is a rock and roll hotel.
(See this story for more on our definition of rock and roll hotels.)
Boa, the cool bar on the first level of the hotel, can get extremely loud throughout the night, and some of the adjoining hotel rooms are definitely effected by the noise.
The rooms are small and the service is average, but if you get a deal (think around $200/night) on a room, and manage to finagle a room as far away from the bar as you can get, you might be pleasantly surprised with your stay.
The pool is real quiet most of the day, not at all a scene, which is nice for folks who want a little relaxation. However, because of the building configuration there isn't much mid-day sun in the pool area, which might explain the sparse crowd.
The bottom line: Staying at this hotel is for folks looking to bunk inside a relative bargain property directly on the Sunset Strip, without sacrificing easy access to an in-house party scene.
Oh, and even if you don't stay here, stop by for a drink at Boa, the actors-in-waiting behind the bar were some of the most affable Hollywoodites we encountered.
