National Geographic Traveler's SF Hotel Picks

September 26, 2005 at 4:10 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

National Geographic Traveler spotlights some of San Francisco's best hotels in this month's issue.

Some of the featured include the Hotel Vitale , the Hotel Des Arts and the Carlton Hotel The latter of which serves complimentary wine in their lobby.

Also recommended is Elements, located in the Mission district of the city.

It's not technically a hotel, but rather one of those trendy hostels with dormitory rooms for $25 a person.

But if you require some privacy, you can request a private room with a bath, with either twin twin bunk beds or a queen bed.

They got free wireless and randomly, telescopes on the roof, which is cool if you can manage to see through the fog.

A recent Elements visitor quipped:

The Mission District, where Elements is located, is definitely on the grungy/edgy side. And walking down Mission Street feels a bit like you're in Mexico or El Salvador. We love it, though. Lots of local "color." Have never felt unsafe.

All that said, the accompanying restaurant, Medjool, is great. The rooftop parties on Saturday nights seem like a lot of fun -- unless you're trying to sleep. Bring earplugs.

If you are going to try Elements, keep two things in mind: First, it is a hostel, moreover, it is a hostel that parties hard. Second, it is in what can definitely be a sketchy area of the Mission.
