[Editor's Note: Hotel Maven ananda k gives us a first hand account of what it was like in a London hotel immediately after the summer bombings.]

July 8th 2005, the day after the London bomings, I was camped out at the K West Hotel in a fringy neighborhood just beyond Kensington Gardens, on the edge of Shepard's Bush. When I say edge, I mean slightly hoodish, but in a colorful way. You can watch a cricket match in the park down the street and smoke cigarettes outside a Eastern European café that blares terribly bad music videos on a giant tele.

The hotel itself is very modern, a bit neon and plexi-glass happy, but still tasteful. Guests drop their things and head straight to the spa. There is complimentary use of the facility for hotel guests. Good deal Ey? They also offer yoga and aerobics classes for those who like to work on their vacations.

The bar is the first thing you notice when you walk in, eye catching and trendy, but also the last thing you notice before you go to sleep. If you like sleep, you'll have to wait till daybreak. This spot comes to life after midnight for guests and fashionable Londoners alike. The rooms are sophisticated, (slate tiled bathrooms, a kettle, and wifi) but do yourself a favor and request a room above the fourth floor, you'll have a better chance of sleeping soundly.

Despite the goings on, bombings and such, the K West Hotel Staff made me feel safe. And like the rest of London, they just kept marching on.
