Where the Diplomats Stay
As a plethora of diplomats and top officials from all over the globe descend on Manhattan for the 60th anniversary of the United Nations , naturally the question that popped into our minds was, where ever will they stay?
Luckily, the New York Times has answered that ever-pressing question.
First stop, the Four Seasons on East 57th.
Prioritizing who gets the presidential suite or other types of "hotel diplomacy" is not an easy feat.
"Sometimes, too, hotel diplomacy involves nail-biting and improvisation. If the guest in the presidential suite has not checked out by the time the president of Country A arrives, the sign above the door that says "presidential suite" can always be unscrewed and moved to whatever room is available."
The Four Seasons, however, has two presidential suites, and a royal suite.
Next up is the Millennium U.N. Plaza Hotel across First Avenue from the United Nations.
Yet, it has only one presidential suite.
Lastly, there is the Waldorf Towers on Park and 50th, which has 26 presidential suites, clearly the winner.
The hotel goes even further to employ a director of diplomatic relations, who has seen to it that each hotel suite has been repainted to please the diplomats from visiting countries (i.e. painting the diplomat from China's room red for "happiness.")
